I agree that social media affects your life because the more your on any social media website it takes time away from do things with your family it also takes time from going outside. But some times it's good because if you are posting positive things it can make some one happy if their sad. Also Its good if you can talk to your friends on some social media centers. Also on some social media web sites any body can look at your personal info. Also some kid's don't know how their talking to.But some times social media center if you post something mean on a social media it can ruin your chances on going to a good collage. It also can ruin your chances of getting a good job.

I agree with John Calipari because the social media follows all of the good and bad things that happen.Lately, the topic of conversation nationally has been how student-athletes handle and respond to some of the criticism they get by having social media accounts and being connected to fans.
Social media judges a lot of famous things like pro athletes they get judged more that normal people. I am building my brand good because i dont post stuff very much at all maybe once a month at tops and when i do it is something funny or a assignments.
Lately, the topic of conversation nationally has been how student-athletes handle and respond to some of the criticism they get by having social media accounts and being connected to fans.
A lot of coaches and people are suggesting they get off things like Twitter and Facebook, but Coach Cal doesn't.“I’m not going to hold my team back from the Twitter or Facebook, but I’m going to teach them how to use it for a positive,” said Coach Cal, who has 1.25 million Twitter followers, 417,000-plus Facebook fans and 44,000-plus Instagram followers.
“We’re trying to tell those kids, hey, you build your brand or you break your brand down,”Calipari agrees with that notion to a point, but instead of banning social media, Coach Cal believes it’s better to educate them on how to use it properly.

In The Reading Workshop, we watched a video about a coach (John Calipari) and it talked about meanness and not to be mean on social media because social media is represented to be positive, and if you are mean, that's who you are in real life. So, Mr. McGuire asked us, Do you agree or disagree? How does social media affect your life? How are you "building your brand?
Well, I totally agree ! I mean, it's so true! If you would be mean on social media, you are probably a big fat jerk in real life! Like, for example, whenever my mom get's on Twitter for my brother (baseball recruiting stuff- very high-tech!) she finds a baseball organization that always talks smack about the good players and praise the not-very-good ones, and they talk about my brothers whole team A LOT (in a bad way, and their one of the best 17U travel team I've ever seen!) Social media doesn't real "affect" my life as much as other people. The only thing I get on is Snapchat, but it's not really a social media, you can't keep the pictures for more than 10-20 seconds! But whenever I'm on, I just talk with my friends like, Lexi, Abigail, or Sydney. We talk about stuff like the basketball games, or just like "How you been?" So, social media doesn't really affect my life. And on Snapchat, I'm building my brand by on my story (you put pictures on your story for everyone to see over and over again) I put things like quotes, and a lot of the time I just talk a blank picture and write my name on it, and put flowers around it! But when my friends are in a bad mood, or sad I always try to get them cheered up by usually making funny face and saying stupid thing like "My name's Bubbles! " So that's how I make my image on social media!

I agree with what he said about social media. Athletes have a huge role in social media basically all celebrities do. Social media reflects on my life because I got an Instagram and a Face Book. I look as if i'm building my brand because i'm not posting anything mean.
Jhon Calipari said he's not gonna not let them use it he is just going to teach them how to use it. Because you don't want them posting bad stuff where they could lose fans. He talks about how you should handle criticism like if you are the kind of person that reads the comments just ignore the bad stuff. Or just do not read it!!! That is what he said that he does so I think everybody should really think about social media and how you use it.

I absolutely agree with Coach Cal from the University of Kentucky about his thoughts on the role of social media. Here is what coach Cals thought of the role of social media. Since a few of John Calipari’s teams at Kentucky, Memphis and UMass have started the year on extended undefeated streaks, Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic had Coach Cal come on their show, “Mike and Mike in the Morning,” on Thursday to discuss the difficulty of going undefeated and the pressure that comes with it. Of course, Syracuse suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday night and Wichita State is still undefeated, so the topic was relevant. Lately, the topic of conversation nationally has been how student-athletes handle and respond to some of the criticism they get by having social media accounts and being connected to fans. A lot of coaches and people are suggesting they get off things like Twitter and Facebook, but Coach Cal doesn’t agree. “This is no disrespect — the coaches you mentioned (Tom Izzo and Rick Pitino), I respect them all — they know nothing about social media. Nothing,” Calipari said. “They don’t do it. They feel it’s another job.” Now, first things first, Pitino’s comments earlier in the week about social media were taken a bit out of context. When Pitino called social media a “waste of time,” he wasn’t necessarily saying he was against social media; rather, he just doesn’t think his players should be on there all the time and reading what people are saying to them. He feels they could be doing something more valuable with their time. Calipari agrees with that notion to a point, but instead of banning social media, Coach Cal believes it’s better to educate them on how to use it properly. “We’re trying to tell those kids, hey, you build your brand or you break your brand down,” Calipari said. To do that, Calipari said UK teaches the players how to manage their accounts, the school monitors what the kids say, and the university brings in professionals to talk with the students and teach them how to best utilize the tool. “I’m not going to hold my team back from the Twitter or Facebook, but I’m going to teach them how to use it for a positive,” said Coach Cal, who has 1.25 million Twitter followers, 417,000-plus Facebook fans and 44,000-plus Instagram followers. Coach Cal reiterated what he said Saturday when College GameDay was in town that he doesn’t read his mentions on social media (that’s part of my job) and recommends to his players that they don’t read theirs either. If they’re going to be on it — which all 16 players are this year — he wants them to lift people up. “Twitter is an opportunity — Facebook is an opportunity — to say what you feel, to try to pick people up, to try to be positive, to try to add something to society, to try to let people see you transparently,” Calipari said. “You cannot be defined, if you are on social media, by somebody else. You will define yourself. And if it’s negative, that’s your fault.”
The role of social media effects on how people think about you, it could be good or even bad. What you put on your Facebook or instagram or anything. Your showing the world how you think, what you think and what you like and dislike. Like coach john Calipari what other people put effects on them not you. I think that people can motivate or bring people up but they can also go the wrong way and put down people making them think that they cant do what they want to succeed on. But if they do that then it will eventually come back to haunt them in my thoughts. It will tell what that persons about and how they act, What they like doing and there personality. Thats my thoughts on The Role of Social Media.

Social Media is like when you get involved in something online and you share daily thoughts and just anything you want to talk about. I know a few people that are involved in social media, like my sister my mom and dad. My sister hardly pays attention to anyone because she is always texting her friends on Facebook constantly.I don't think Facebook and other things like that are bad but it does draw away attention from other people and people should spend less time on Facebook and twitter. Many people that get on Facebook say they often get picked on or see bad things, that is probably true because if you think about it doesn't make you a good person.

I disagree about social media being very useful but you can inform people and tell how you feel but people can say something rather true or not. Everybody will be able to see. But what I think is why would you post things on the Internet that you wouldn't want anyone else other than your friends to see or know. My mom and my Sister do Facebook and Instagram and post a lot of what we do and some times i just find it annoying but other times its OK. I just don't believe in Facebook or any social media. You can give yourself a good brand and someone else can just say something not true and destroy it.
Coach Cal does say you can inform people witch you can but there is no reason to post and say what your doing on the internet and there is a lot of things on social medias that are dumb and nobody wants to know. But even though I don't do Facebook or Instagram or any of that I do do blogs and a question board which is this and I think i have made a good brand on what i do have social media wise. Social media doesn't really affect my life I only ever really do it at school. That is why I disagree with Coach Cal. That is my view on Social Media.

I think Social media like Facebook or Twitter is pointless because I think that's countless hours posting stupid pictures or joining pointless chats. I mean I haven't been on Facebook for like three months and that doesn't affect me because everybody on my friends list ignores me anyway so I'm not being affected. Besides if I'm ever on its to just see what everyone of my friends or family is doing. So I just think posting pictures of yourself for eight hours a day is just a waste. So I just think its point less to sit around the house on the computer in a chat going "Oh my gosh that movie was the best ever oh my gosh...." see what I mean pointless! Or sitting up in your room taking pictures for six hours people are getting tired of seeing your face everywhere! But I mean if you get on Facebook and start talking rudely about something your just giving yourself more arguments and then you seem like a stupid fat jerk who sits around the house all day. But if you speak positively people start putting good posts and there acting like your a american hero... Or they still might think your a big fat jerk who sits around the house all day. But I'm not affecting myself because its not like I get on Facebook and say "I am a super genius fear me normal people!" I get on I get off. Well that is all I have to complain about...

John Calipari said that we should ban social media like Facebook and Twitter.
I agree with John Calipari because if you have a Facebook or Twitter when you post bad stuff about other people and negative stuff on your page when people Google you 10 years from now there going to see all that stuff you posted. I also agree with John Calipari because a NBA sports team could put a picture or a video of there NBA sports team and somebody could comment on that picture or video the person posted and say mean stuff like your guys basketball suck and number 42 can even make one basketball in the hoop and the stuff that the person said the NBA basketball team could see it and get them all down and then they might just wanna stop playing basketball just because a cyber bully could said mean stuff about there NBA team.
I also disagree with John Calipari we should not ban social media because not all people on social media sites post bad stuff on there Facebook or Twitter pages so they should not have to be banned from social media because they was not doing anything wrong.
Another reason you should be careful what you post on Facebook,Twitter and other social sites like them is because if your trying to get a good job somewhere when the person your trying to get a job from might Google you and they will see the stuff you post about other people and how your always negative.
Some people Facebook and Twitter and other social sites like that there are really mean people like if you posted a picture of you and your soccer team then somebody can comment on your pictures and say I've seen your guys soccer team play and you guys suck then when people say that the person that posted that pictures will feel bad and maybe even quit soccer because what that person commented on their picture.
I think that I should stop posting crazy stuff on my Facebook and Twitter page because I see not being able to get a good job because of what I posted on my social media sites

I agree with John Calipari when he said “Twitter is an opportunity — Facebook is an opportunity — to say what you feel, to try to pick people up, to try to be positive, to try to add something to society, to try to let people see you transparently,” Calipari said. “You cannot be defined, if you are on social media, by somebody else. You will define yourself. And if it’s negative, that’s your fault.”
You should only use Facebook or twitter for the good of others. Why would you ever be a hater you are just making your brand look bad.
There has recently been a trend of athletes responding to these hatters and making themselves.John Calipari has been teaching his team not to respond to hatters. “We’re trying to tell those kids, hey, you build your brand or you break your brand down,” Calipari said,John Calipari said this on ESPN Chanel last night what he means by this is you build your own face in society and it can ether be good and grow your brand or you can destroy your brand buy the way you choose to be.

I agree with John Calipari about Social Media because if you are using Social Media you can get in trouble and you could get hurt. Also it can just be a lot of DRAMA.Than I disagree because if you don't have Social Media than you can't communicate with your friends. If there talking about something on Facebook or whatever Social Media it is your going to be left out. But I do think that parents should have access to there child's Social Media. But I agree with John Calipari because it could ruin your life. You could always be sitting on your Social Media and that could be the only thing you ever do. I think it's just persons opinion. I think it just depends on the person. I'm the type of person that it could go either way. Yeah its fun to get on your Social Media but I think that you should be able to limit yourself. Social Media really does not affect my life that much because I'm not on it all the time. I limit myself. How I'm "Building my brand" because I have a Social Media but I don't post bad things on it and I don't post things that is going to make people think that I'm a hater. I don't post things that could hurt other people or make someone upset. I think that if your going to have a Social Media that you need to post ONLY positive things. Do not post things that could harm you or anyone else. I can understand why John Calipari would say the things he said about Social Media. You can find the video of John Calipari saying what he thinks about Social Media at www.thereadingworkshop.com/

When it comes to social media I agree with coach Calipari it can be good if you use it in the right way. I have a social media account and I use mine in a responsible way like coach Calipari talked about. I use my social media account to keep up with my friends and current events going on around the world. When I talk to people I my account I'm not bullying people or posting negative stuff and not using foul language. These are responsible ways to use social media without running into problems. There are also negatives on social media that coach Calipari mentioned in the video. It started out with coach talking about building your brand and being responsible on social media. When I get on social media I try to watch account for the negatives like bullying and posting negative stuff about other people or using foul language. Now if you would ever be to make a social media account use it the responsible way and, don't post negative stuff about one another or bully them and I advise don't use foul language if you use social media the right way you're more likely to not run into problems.

Hmm... How is Social Media effect my life and build my brand? Well I think that Social Media is a good thing because if we didn't have Social Media I think the world would be way more different. For me (even though I have to get online at the library) Social Media is well basically my life because I get to research things, listen to music, interact with my friends and so much more! =)
I cant imagine living without Social Media, I mean the world has changed so much since before the 1960s people began to communicate online. Like we can watch movies online and you make new friends on Social Media like twitter, Facebook, tumblr, kik, snap chat, face time and many more! =)
I think that on my twitter, I talk ALL about One Direction!!!!! =) So people know that I like them.
When I'm online my grandma said to be careful online, which I think she is right don't put TOO MUCH INFORMATION ONLINE!!!!! If someone asks for my phone number or what I look like I tell them no, because If I don't know them personally or what they look like then no. Social Media might be fun , but it can also be dangerous. That's why I'm always careful .And don't cyber bully anyone or posting negative stuff and not using foul language. These are responsible ways to use social media so BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!=)
Nowadays, social networking has been taking a big part in our lives such as; twitter, Face book, MySpace, tumblr, kik, snap chat, face time and many more.
Social Media can benefit companies for those who promote their websites or businesses online.People these days are relying on Social Media because of its updates about the world, celebrity's,gossip and more!
When you are using Social Media you can get in trouble and you could get hurt. Also it can just be a lot of DRAMA.Like twitter war's.(They can be rude and just plane mean!)

I agree with coach Calipari because it helps me see what scores and things about players. It also helps with interacting with friends and making new friends. I also like Instagram because I got to see Paul George's dunk, if it wasn't for Instagram I would have missed it because it was on TV too late. Although I like Instagram there are some negative aspects such as people posting bad comments and inappropriate pictures. That is what I think about social media.
